asset tracking system

Minorplanet vehicle tracking systems and fleet management solutions can help reduce fuel consumption by as much as 25%...

Minorplanet vehicle tracking systems deliver real cost savings to fleets of any size, significantly reducing running costs and increasing profits by providing complete fleet management at your fingertips.

Vehicle tracking systems provide this control simply and effectively and can deliver significant ROI. Real time positional information can be used to improve driver and vehicle efficiency. This results in more deliveries, happier customers, lower insurance premiums, the elimination of personal use of vehicles (if required), and validation of overtime claims.

Minorplanet vehicle tracking systems deliver real cost savings to fleets of any size, significantly reducing running costs and increasing profits by providing complete fleet management at your fingertips.

I control 45 trucks in my own fleet and because of the short delivery lead times demanded by our customers it’s almost impossible to take a vehicle off the road. The Minorplanet drive-in at Bristol means we can incorporate visits to the drive-in for installation, maintenance and system updates into the drivers’ schedules. This flexibility means we can keep expensive downtime to the absolute minimum.

It encompasses the ability to access detailed management information to plan the future success of your business.

VMIgreenlight® uses sophisticated tracking software and GPS tracking devices to help businesses of all sizes reduce fleet running costs and increase company productivity. It is the easiest to use, feature-rich system available on the market today. It gives users the capability to track and monitor their vehicles’ locations, performance in real-time and historic journeys, as well as the ability to efficiently plan and set routes with satellite navigation technology.

VMIgreenlight® is available as a web-based tracking system which is ideal for organisations that do not wish to host and manage their own computer hardware and prefer to access the system via the internet.

VMIgreenlight® is also available as a self-hosted tracking system which is ideal for those companies that wish to store and manage their own data.

vmigreenlight gps mapping

Maptrack is the main application of VMIgreenlight®.

It allows you to track, monitor and access real-time and historic fleet management information, down to street level mapping. The simplicity and high level of detail makes the system instantly understandable and the ability to see individual vehicles, groups or your entire fleet on mapping quality unrivalled in the telematics industry provides accurate information to you, your drivers and your customers.

Playback allows you to replay vehicle activities by simply selecting the date and time in history.

The VMIgreenlight® tracking system will show you the exact route your vehicles took and it can even identify the speed the vehicle was travelling and how many times each vehicle stopped. The vehicle journey can be replayed and illustrated using a 'snail-trail' which allows you to check specific points of the journey to identify what happened. You can replay the movements of any vehicle at a speed and time to suit you.

vmigreenlight web tracking

VMIgreenlight® Anywhere allows access to live vehicle tracking and fleet management reporting from any computer with an internet connection.

temperature controlled vehicle

Complete visibility of your temperature controlled fleet.

Goods being transported need to be received exactly as they were packed. Tinytag data loggers can be used with VMIgreenlight® to ensure that consignments are maintained at a constant temperature during transportation. When the temperature within the refrigerated vehicle deviates from the preset range, the Tinytag data logger outputs an alarm to the VMIgreenlight® system. The fleet manager or selected individual(s) can be alerted to this via a PC or mobile phone.

Used in conjunction with an optional door sensor the Tinytag provides accurate temperature monitoring allowing the fleet manager to identify and check the possible cause of temperature change during a journey.

vehicle tracking door sensor

Integrated crime protection for your fleet.

There are approximately 40,000 crimes concerning heavy goods vehicles every year in the UK, costing up to £1 billion a year in vehicle and lost load values. Similarly, 1 in 50 LGVs on the road is subject to crime. 1 in 9 is stolen with 66% of these from residential areas. 41% of those subject to crime had no security. Losses equate to £152 million in the UK in 12 months. Consequently, more and more insurance companies are insisting on extra security fittings.

The door sensors are a range of magnetic switches with sensors that are used for light and heavy duty doors which detect when the vehicle door is open/closed. The switches are designed to be fitted on the rear and/or side doors of light vehicles and to the rear roller shutter doors on heavy goods.

phone dialler

Control over the numbers called, control over cost.

The Minorplanet Voice Dialler uses the VMIgreenlight® GPS tracking device to deliver seamless hands-free communication to and from the vehicle. Consisting of a keypad, microphone and amplified speaker the dialler is a powerful addition to the Minorplanet peripheral range of products. In using the same SIM as the tracking device, line rental is kept to a minimum and billing is simplified by using preset numbers for outgoing calls and an ‘allowed’ list for incoming numbers.

Trailer Tracking

asset tracking

GPS tracking for trailers, assets and valuable plant...

Minorplanet's Asset Tracker is a GPS tracking device designed to be fitted to a trailer, plant or other valuable asset. The unit is fully compatible with VMIgreenlight®, can be activated by the integral motion sensor, and is capable of periodic or live, minute-by-minute tracking.

insurance benefits vehicle tracking

Minorplanet and Bluefin partnership

Insurers continually strive to find the means to reduce the number and severity of claims by improving the insurance risk profile of the fleets they insure. Risk Management is the key to achieving this objective.

Using Minorplanet vehicle tracking to generate an accurate driver performance feed, it is possible to build a proactive driver performance history that can direct the attention of fleet managers to poor driving behaviours and therefore provide an opportunity to manage them.

driver behaviour reporting

Track, monitor and access real-time and historic fleet information.

Monitor driving behaviour and identify speeding trends for the selected vehicle or driver. For the specified date range, you can view the total travelling time, distance travelled, total idling time, number of speeding events, the distance travelled whilst speeding (in miles or km and percentage). This is useful to identify speeding trends per driver or vehicle and you can use this report to compare driver or vehicle behaviour.

driver id

Ensures the correct identification of drivers.

Each driver is equipped with a uniquely coded driver ID tag enabling identification and driver activity logging in the VMIgreenlight® system. All reports can be set to run for each ‘driver’ so that drivers’ activity can be monitored across multiple vehicles. It provides a simple means of collecting accurate data without the need to create large numbers of driver assignments manually, reducing paperwork and administrative tasks.

Driver ID ensures proper identification of drivers, helping fleet managers to comply with the requirements of the Working Time Directive (WTD) through the recording and reporting on driving hours by each driver.

API (Application Programming Interface)

vehicle tracking API

Enables data exchange between VMIgreenlight® and almost any other application

If you have other back-office systems, and have ever thought ‘if only I could see my vehicle, journey and location data in...’ then it is worth considering the VMIgreenlight® API.

What does the VMIgreenlight® API mean to you?
API stands for Application Programming Interface. An API is exactly what its name suggests – an interface or set of instructions that allow two different applications to interact and share information.

An API provides the ability to share data across different platforms. The VMIgreenlight® API has been developed to allow any data presented in VMIgreenlight® to be accessible to other applications you may already have using standard internet technologies. The VMIgreenlight® API provides a means of data sharing between VMIgreenlight® and almost any other application, the end result appearing seamless to the you, the user.

  • Share information between new or legacy systems
  • No need to develop information applications from scratch as API components can be used together
  • Enhance a field-tested and proven product as needed to reflect unique and changing requirements
  • Integrate different applications across different platforms so the end result appears seamless to the end user(s)
  • Leverage the development costs of existing systems by interfacing them with VMIgreenlight®
  • Integrate key VMIgreenlight® data into dynamic intranet / extranet delivery applications, with bespoke query and reporting options.
  • An industry standard means for systems developers to quickly gain access to available data
  • Enables data exchange, between VMIgreenlight® and almost any other application
  • Interrogate the hosted database in a secure manner without jeopardising data integrity
  • Create a bespoke, interactive user interface or web page to view and manage data
  • Create a secure automated process running in the background that provides a constant data feed from VMIgreenlight® to another database or application.

Imagine if you could tie your staffing cost data to hours worked and distance travelled data to scheduling...

You would have a payroll-to-revenue metric and a planned vs. actual utilisation metric that could inform critical staffing and planning decisions.

The API interface removes the constraints of a standard User Interface, allowing you to define the data that you wish to extract. All this is done over the Internet using Secure Socket Layer (SSL - the same security used by banks and e-commerce businesses).

Once the necessary interface programming work has been defined and developed, you can use the API to facilitiate your data management and reuse across systems in a number of ways. For example, you might want to simply extract data on an ad-hoc basis for import into another system as it is needed. You might want to develop an automatic update program that extracts data on a regular basis (for example; minute-by-minute) and then writes it to the database of another application.

CANbus

vmigreenlight CANbus

Why connect to CANbus?

The VMIgreenlight® GPS tracking device can be connected to a vehicle’s Engine Control Unit (ECU) via CANbus (Controller Area Network bus) and provide detailed vehicle information back to fleet managers.

This allows accurate vehicle data to be captured to help with driver behaviour and vehicle monitoring, cost control and operational efficiency.

Data recorded can include:

  • Fuel usage
  • MPG
  • Use of brake and number of brake applications
  • Use of clutch and gear changes
  • Use of auxiliary equipment (Power Take Off)
  • Fuel usage during vehicle idling
  • Extended fleet management information
  • Accurate fuel usage
  • Maintenance cost
  • Reduction in unplanned downtime
  • Identifying bad driving habits
  • 6-16% reduction in fuel usage
  • 2-10% reduction in operational costs
  • ROI within 6-12 months
